Wild Turkeys Becoming Friends With My Chickens

I have a group of around 25-30 wild turkeys that come around regularly. Just recently they have figured out when I feed the chickens, and then they think they should come in and eat with the chickens. They don't fight with the chickens, they just kind of mosey on in amongst them. The chickens don't seem to mind. All I have are hens right now. If I had a rooster, I think there would be some fighting.

  1. It looks like that will either get expensive or your chickens will get skinnier. I don't know if there could be any disease problems or not.

    1. I have been just letting the chickens run free wherever they want this winter. Once spring comes, they go in an enclosed area with netting over it, because the bald eagles get very numerous here in the spring, and they will swoop down and take chickens. Then the garden gets going and they stay penned up so they don't destroy everything. I tried letting them in the garden to eat the bugs, like some people recommend. That did not work so well with my chickens. They thought they were supposed to dig everything up. I tried very hard to explain the way things were supposed to be, them eat just the bugs and leave the plants be. Somehow I think there was a language barrier or something, because they never seemed to understand. Haha. So back in the enclosure they went. By the way, I have been keeping your job situation in my prayers, Gorges.
